Stop Finding Excuses and Start Looking for Solutions! (The Simple Shift That Changes Everything in Diet and Fitness)
This week, my inspiration comes from a thought that occurred to me while I was doing shoulder presses during a workout. Currently, I have a painful shoulder (wear and tear injury). I was thinking about moving on to another body part, and I said to myself – Clare, stop finding excuses and start looking for solutions! It led me to think about how many other habits I have that I create excuses for rather than seeking a solution to the problem.
So today we’re talking about something we all do (yep, me included!): finding excuses instead of solutions.
We tell ourselves we’re too busy, too tired, too old, or too far gone to start - but often, it’s not time or ability holding us back... It’s our mindset.
So, let’s flip the script and focus on progress, not perfection. Because small, consistent action beats the “perfect plan” every time. 💪
Why Excuses Feel Easier Than Action
Excuses give us comfort. They protect us from failure and justify our current situation.
But here’s the truth: every excuse hides a solution waiting to happen.
➡️ “I don’t have time.” → You need a plan that fits your schedule, not someone else’s.
➡️ “I’ve tried everything.” → You’ve probably tried everything except consistency.
➡️ “I’m too tired.” → You need better energy habits, not more caffeine or guilt.
5 Strategies to Switch from Excuses to Solutions
Shrink the Goal – Don’t aim for perfect; aim for progress - a 20-minute walk counts.
Plan Like a Pro – Schedule your workouts and meals like meetings; they matter.
Stack Your Habits – Attach a new habit to one you already do (e.g., squats while the kettle boils!).
Focus on the “Why” – When motivation dips, your reason keeps you moving.
Celebrate Tiny Wins – Progress is rarely loud. Recognise every small success.
3 Excuses to Banish for Good
“I’ll start Monday.” – Start now. The perfect time never comes.
“I don’t have time.” – You don’t need hours. You need intentional minutes.
“I’m too busy.” – You’re not too busy to feel better. You’re just prioritising other people’s needs first.
7-Point Solution Finder Checklist
Do I have a small goal I can start working on today?
Have I planned at least two workouts this week?
Am I eating enough protein each day?
Did I drink 2L of water today?
Did I get 7 hours or more of sleep last night?
Have I moved my body (even a little)?
Have I celebrated one win this week, no matter how small?
This Week’s Takeaway
Excuses might sound convincing, but they don’t get results.
