Why Eating Less Isn’t Helping You Lose Weight (And what to do instead…)

Weekly Welcome – from Clare

If you’ve ever thought…

“I’m barely eating - why isn’t the weight shifting?”
You’re not alone. And more importantly, you’re not doing it wrong.

The issue isn’t that you need to eat. It’s that your body needs the right structure, balance and consistency to actually lose weight.

This week, we’re ditching the “eat less, move more” myth and focusing on what .

5 Reasons Eating Less Isn’t Working (And What To Do Instead)

  1. You’re Not Eating Enough Protein. Undereating often means low protein → more hunger, more cravings, less muscle. 👉 Aim for protein at every meal to stay full and support fat loss.

  2. You’re Skipping Meals → Then Overeating Later.  Long gaps = blood sugar crashes = “I need everything now” mode. 👉 Eat regularly to stay in control.

  3. Your Body Is in “Survival Mode” Constantly low-calorie intake can slow metabolism, reduce energy, and stall fat loss. 👉 Fuel your body consistently don’t starve it.

  4. You’re Losing Muscle, Not Fat. Eating too little + not enough protein or resistance training = muscle loss. 👉 Muscle = metabolism. Protect it.

  5. You’re Tired, Stressed and Running on Empty.  Low food = low energy = poor choices, less movement, more cravings. 👉 More balanced eating = better decisions.

7 Signs You’re Undereating (Save This!)

If this sounds like you, it’s time to rethink your approach:

1. You’re constantly thinking about food

2. You feel tired, sluggish or irritable

3. You snack more in the evenings

4. Your workouts feel harder than they should

5. You struggle to concentrate.

6. Your weight has plateaued (or fluctuates wildly)

7. You feel “out of control” around food

This isn’t a lack of willpower - it’s your body asking for more support.

3 Common Mistakes That Keep You Stuck

1. Thinking Less Food = Faster Results It might work in the short term… but it doesn’t last. And it often backfires.

2. Ignoring Hunger Signals Hunger isn’t the enemy - it’s communication. Ignore it too long, and it gets louder.

3. Chasing Perfection Instead of Consistency Being “perfect” for three days and then overeating doesn’t beat steady, balanced habits.

Final Thought This Week

Weight loss isn’t about eating as little as possible. It’s about eating enough of the right things, consistently.

More structure. More balance. More awareness.

That’s where results come from.
